In the late morning of Thursday, February 20, 2025, a witness in Jackson, Tennessee, made a grim discovery. Lying on the ground next to a vacant residence in the 100 block of Conger Street was a young man who had been shot multiple times. Despite the efforts of first responders, 25-year-old Quenteraqus Mckinnie was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a Black / African American male.
The Jackson Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting death of the young man. Their work led them to identify a suspect within a few days. On Monday, February 24, 2025, at approximately 10 a.m., investigators took a 17-year-old male into custody in connection with the killing.
The teenage suspect is facing a charge of First Degree Murder. He is set to be formally charged in the Juvenile Court division of the Madison County General Sessions. The motive for the shooting and the circumstances that led to the violent encounter have not been publicly released by authorities as the investigation continues.
Quenteraqus Mckinnie, a 2018 graduate of Bolivar High School, was remembered by family and friends. He was an employee at a local restaurant. His funeral services were held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, as his community mourned the untimely loss of a son, brother, and friend.
