On an autumn evening in Jackson, Tennessee, a plan was set in motion that would end in the tragic death of 32-year-old Travis Hulsey. On October 31, 2022, Hulsey was fatally shot at the Rodeway Inn in a robbery that had been orchestrated by three individuals.
The investigation into the homicide led to the identification and arrest of Charles Wilson, James Brown, and Keyanna Massengill. According to court testimony, the trio had devised a plan to lure Hulsey to the motel with the intention of robbing him. Massengill reportedly knew that Hulsey would be in possession of money and drugs.
During the attempted robbery, a struggle ensued, and Travis Hulsey was shot in the chest. The gunshot wound proved to be fatal, perforating his heart and lungs. The manner of his death was determined to be a homicide.
Following the investigation, the three suspects faced legal proceedings. Charles Wilson was ultimately convicted by a Madison County Circuit Court jury of second-degree murder and facilitation of attempted simple robbery. For his role in the death of Travis Hulsey, he received a sentence of twenty-three years in the Department of Correction. James Brown, another co-defendant in the case, entered into a plea agreement with the state. The case against the third individual, Keyanna Massengill, was severed.
