Winston Demond Pearson, a 31-year-old Black male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of a residence at 51 Marlow Drive in north Jackson, Tennessee, on the afternoon of July 14, 2024. Officers from the Jackson Police Department responded to a 911 call about a shooting at approximately 12:50 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered that Pearson had already succumbed to his injuries.
Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots but did not witness the incident itself.
Investigators quickly identified 24-year-old Daniel Lake as a suspect in the fatal shooting. Lake was arrested the following Monday afternoon and has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Criminal Justice Complex and was scheduled for a formal arraignment in Jackson City Court the next morning. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Pearson's death is ongoing, and the Jackson Police Department has encouraged anyone with additional information to contact them.
Born in Jackson, Tennessee, on January 19, 1993, Winston Pearson attended schools in both the Jackson-Madison County and Memphis City school systems, later earning his GED in 2017. He was employed as a Line Lead at Menasha Packaging in Jackson and had been baptized at the East Jackson Church of Christ. His funeral service was held on July 27, 2024, at the East Jackson Church of Christ, with his burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was a father to seven children.
