In the winter of 2012, the community of Jackson, Tennessee, was shaken by the violent death of a young man. Justin DWayne Clark, a 21-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of Thursday, February 2nd. The incident that claimed his life unfolded near the campus of Lane College, a place of learning and aspiration that became the backdrop for a senseless act of violence.
Clark was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, the efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, Demario Pirtle. Details emerged that the fatal encounter was the result of a dispute that escalated with tragic consequences. Pirtle, who was 22 years old at the time, was identified as the individual responsible for firing the weapon that killed Clark. Following the investigation by the Jackson Police Department, Pirtle was apprehended and faced the judicial system for his actions.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, Demario Pirtle was charged with second-degree murder. Rather than proceeding to a full trial, Pirtle chose to accept a plea agreement.
