In the city of Jackson, Tennessee, a story of jealousy and violence unfolded, culminating in the tragic death of 64-year-old Aljernon 'A.J.' Lloyd Jr. The male victim's life was cut short on the evening of March 11, 2014, a Tuesday that would end in a senseless act of aggression. Lloyd, a resident of Jackson, found himself in a fatal confrontation while visiting a female friend.
The events of that night would not only devastate a family but also lead to a swift police investigation and ultimately, a murder conviction.
The incident began to unfold around 7:30 p.m. as Lloyd was sitting in his car, parked at his friend's house on Greenwood Avenue. It was there that Ytockie Fuller, the ex-boyfriend of the woman Lloyd was visiting, appeared. Armed with a gun, Fuller approached Lloyd, and a confrontation ensued. In a desperate attempt to escape the escalating situation, Lloyd tried to drive away. However, Fuller fired his weapon, striking Lloyd. Despite being wounded, Lloyd managed to drive for about half a mile before crashing his vehicle into the porch of a house on East Forest Avenue. When police arrived at the scene of the crash, they discovered Lloyd, the sole occupant of the car, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Lloyd's death quickly pointed to Ytockie Fuller as the prime suspect. Just two days after the shooting, on March 13, Fuller surrendered to the Jackson police. The case against him moved forward, and in July of the same year, a Madison County Grand Jury indicted him for first-degree murder. The legal proceedings culminated in a two-day trial in April 2015. The prosecution argued that Fuller's actions were premeditated, a deliberate act of violence. The defense, on the other hand, contended that Fuller had acted in self-defense, although the murder weapon was never recovered. After just thirty minutes of deliberation, the jury returned a guilty verdict. Ytockie Fuller was convicted of the first-degree murder of Aljernon Lloyd Jr. and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, bringing a close to a case that had tragically and unnecessarily ended a man's life.
