In the Fairhill section of Philadelphia, on the evening of June 22, 2025, a young man's life was tragically cut short. Nelson Celda, a 23-year-old Hispanic male, was enjoying a ride on his scooter when violence befell him at the intersection of West Tusculum and North Howard streets. The events of that evening left a community in mourning and a family searching for answers that remain elusive.
At approximately 7:36 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers were called to the 100 block of West
Tusculum Street following reports of a man down. Upon arrival, they discovered Nelson Celda lying unresponsive in the street. Paramedics who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead at 7:49 p.m., his life extinguished by gunfire. He had been shot and killed while on his scooter. A resident of North 3rd Street, Celda was remembered by those who knew him as a good person, a wonderful brother, and a respected uncle. His kindness extended beyond his family, as he was known in his community for his willingness to help others, particularly the elderly.
The investigation into Nelson Celda's death is ongoing, but it remains an unsolved homicide. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified by law enforcement.
