Jaycieon Bennett, 17, a Black male, was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 400 block of Baden Street in south Toledo on the afternoon of July 4, 2025. Officers found him with at least one gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A female passenger was also struck by gunfire and taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she was expected to survive.
An autopsy performed the next day documented three gunshot wounds—chest, back, and left upper arm—and ruled the death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
Detectives quickly developed leads that pointed to the shooting unfolding during an illegal gun sale. Within three days, police arrested three juveniles on murder charges: Jose Flores, 17; Joesiah Flores, 13; and Inell Hollie, 14. Prosecutors indicated the case could lead to the 14- and 17-year-old suspects being tried as adults, while the 13-year-old is not eligible for adult court. Local reporting and police records place the shooting near 426 Baden Street just before 5 p.m., and authorities asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
