In the Upper Falls neighborhood of Rochester, New York, a burst of violence on a Saturday in late May of 2025 ended the life of 19-year-old Delwin Aponte-Charbonier. The young man, whose ethnicity has not been publicly disclosed, was inside a home on Ward Street when he was shot in the torso. Rushed to a nearby hospital, he succumbed to his injuries several hours later on May 31, 2025, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden and tragic loss.
The investigation into the shooting
moved swiftly, and within a week, the Rochester Police Department had a suspect in custody. Jordan Figueroa-Olivo, a 23-year-old resident of the city, was arrested and subsequently charged in connection with the death of Aponte-Charbonier. The charges brought against Figueroa-Olivo were serious, including first-degree manslaughter and a firearms-related crime, indicating the alleged gravity of his role in the fatal shooting.
A search of Figueroa-Olivo's residence uncovered evidence that authorities believe is linked to the crime. Investigators found a handgun, which is suspected to be the weapon used in the shooting. Alongside the firearm, three high-capacity magazines were also seized. Figueroa-Olivo was scheduled for arraignment to face the charges leveled against him as the legal process to seek justice for Delwin Aponte-Charbonier commenced.
