His dedication to duty led him to assist his six-person department in a critical moment. Upon arriving at the scene, he pulled over a truck and began checking its tag number. During this process, he made his final radio transmission, calling out "shots fired."
Deputy Lindsey was mortally wounded by a shot from a .30 caliber rifle but managed to return fire, injuring both suspects.
The suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident. They were tried and convicted of murder. The accomplice initially received a death sentence, which was later commuted to life imprisonment, while the shooter was sentenced to life in prison. Deputy Lindsey's bravery and commitment to his duty were evident even in his final moments, as he continued to protect his community despite his own injuries.
Deputy Lindsey had served with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office for five years.
