In the spring of 2015, the life of 32-year-old Rasheame Stevens, a male resident of Rochester, New York, was tragically cut short by an act of gun violence. On the evening of April 25th, Stevens was on North Street when he was fatally shot. The incident prompted an investigation by the Rochester Police Department as they worked to piece together the events that led to the city's 11th homicide of the year.
For months, the case remained under investigation.
Then, in August of that same year, authorities announced a significant development with the arrests of two suspects. Markell Stubbs, who was 24 years old at the time, and Shavar Young, then 29, were taken into custody and charged in connection with the death of Rasheame Stevens. Both men faced serious felony charges for their alleged roles in the shooting that ended a man's life on a city street.
Following their arrests, the two men were indicted on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The legal process moved forward, and in 2017, Shavar Young was convicted by a jury of his peers for the murder of Rasheame Stevens. His co-defendant, Markell Stubbs, was also found guilty of the same charges. For their parts in the violent death, both Young and Stubbs were sentenced to serve 25 years to life in state prison, bringing a measure of closure to the investigation and the family of the victim.
