In the early morning hours of September 2, 2025, the life of 21-year-old Jontay Davis of the Bronx was tragically cut short. Police discovered the young man lying face down behind Saint Barnabas Hospital at approximately 2:02 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his head. It is believed that he was not shot at that location but was instead driven there and left behind. Emergency services rushed him into the hospital, where medical staff attempted to save him, but he was ultimately pronounced deceased.
Davis was described by his family as a son, brother, uncle, and friend who was full of life and had a unique way of seeing the world due to living with autism.
Surveillance footage from the scene showed a car pulling up near the hospital just before 2 a.m. Three men were seen exiting the vehicle and carrying another man, believed to be Davis, across the street toward the hospital. As NYPD officers arrived, the three men got back into their car and fled the scene. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities have been working to trace the vehicle's path before it arrived at Saint Barnabas.
In connection with the death of Jontay Davis, two arrests have been made. Desean Edwards, 22, of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. A second man, 23-year-old Xavier Kearney from the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, was also arrested and charged with murder and six counts of criminal possession of a weapon. The NYPD has also released photos of a woman in her 20s with red hair and a tattoo, who is wanted in connection with the homicide. It is believed she may have been with Davis at the time of the shooting. The investigation remains active as authorities continue to seek justice for Jontay Davis and his family.
