In the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, a dispute outside a deli on University Avenue escalated into a fatal encounter for Cesar Augustino Suero. On the afternoon of November 12, 2014, the 39-year-old male resident of Washington Heights was shot in the torso and leg. The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Suero was quickly taken to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Witnesses reported that Suero and the man who shot him
may have been acquainted, as they were seen walking together earlier in the day. The New York City Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. They released a description of the suspect as a Hispanic male, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old, wearing black pants, a green hooded sweatshirt, and multi-colored sneakers. Authorities also circulated a photograph of a dark-colored SUV that the suspect was seen exiting before the confrontation.
The investigation led police to identify 23-year-old Alex Martinez as the primary suspect in Suero's death. Martinez was located and apprehended in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Following his arrest, he awaited extradition back to New York to face charges for the murder of Cesar Augustino Suero.
