Carey Cota, a 35-year-old woman from Las Vegas, was killed late Sunday night, June 22, 2025, in what authorities described as an apparent murder-suicide. Police were called just after 11 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 9200 block of West Charleston Boulevard, where she was found inside with a fatal gunshot wound. The Clark County coroner identified her as Carey Cota and ruled her death a homicide caused by a shotgun wound to the head.
While officers worked the apartment scene near South Fort Apache Road, another call came in from the 6800 block of Sigri Street, roughly a dozen miles to the north, reporting a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a vehicle. Medics pronounced him dead there. Detectives determined the two scenes were connected: the man had shot his girlfriend inside the apartment, fled, and then took his own life on Sigri Street near Centennial Parkway and the 215 Beltway.
No arrests were made. The man believed responsible died by suicide, and as of the initial public updates in the days following the shooting, authorities had not yet released his name while the investigation continued.
