In the late winter of 2021, the life of Cecilia "Ceci" Apolo-Lobel, a 55-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short. On Saturday, February 27, she was found deceased in her Las Vegas, Nevada, apartment in what authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide. The grim discovery was made after one of her concerned children, unable to reach her, requested that police conduct a welfare check at her home.

Beside her were the remains of her husband, Jeffrey David Lobel. Investigators believe that Jeffrey, a former Orange County Corrections Officer, was the perpetrator in the violent event that ended both of their lives. The couple had relocated to Las Vegas from the Hudson Valley a few years prior to the incident. Friends of Cecilia indicated that the couple had been facing both health and financial difficulties.

The tragedy was compounded by the personal struggles Cecilia was navigating at the time of her death. She had been actively planning to return to New York to support her daughter, who had recently been diagnosed with the same form of cancer that had claimed the life of Cecilia's son in 2017. Described by a friend as being full of life, happy, and always looking for ways to help others, Cecilia's sudden and violent death left her children, grandchildren, family, and friends devastated. In the wake of her death, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by a friend to help her family with the expenses of bringing her remains back to New York for burial.
