In the early evening of June 8, 2025, tragedy struck in Lansing, Michigan, when Marvin High Jr., a 58-year-old Black/African American male, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded around 5:38 p.m. in the 3300 block of Bardaville Street. Responding to the scene, police and fire personnel discovered High with gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting quickly
progressed, with law enforcement signaling early on that the act was not a random one. Within a matter of days, investigators were able to identify two individuals believed to be connected to the crime. On June 11, the Lansing police announced the arrests of 34-year-old Ross Coats of Eaton Rapids and 32-year-old Nicole Blowers of Lansing.
Authorities believe the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute over money that Blowers claimed she was owed by High. The argument escalated to a tragic conclusion when Coats allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Marvin High Jr. multiple times. Following the shooting, Coats and Blowers reportedly fled the scene on a motorcycle. Both have since been charged with open murder and related weapons offenses. A judge denied bond for Coats, while Blowers' bond was set at $70,000.
