In the evening hours of September 13, 2022, Dominick Ramon Hopson, a 32-year-old Black / African American male from Lansing, Michigan, was fatally shot. The incident occurred in the 100 block of East Barnes Avenue. Officers from the Lansing Police Department were dispatched to the area around 8:20 p.m. following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hopson in the street with gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death was the 14th homicide in Lansing that year.
Known as a devoted family man, Hopson was a father, son, and brother. He was actively working to better his life for the sake of his daughters and was in the process of moving into his own apartment. He had a background in hospitality and had also started his own lawn care business. Those who knew him remembered his commitment to his family and his entrepreneurial spirit.
The investigation into Hopson's murder led to the apprehension of two suspects. Grant Allen Thompson Jr., 53, and Marcus Dawan Thompson, 33, were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. Both men were subsequently charged with murder. During their arraignment in 54A District Court, a cash bond of $100,000 was set for each of them. The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details regarding a potential motive or the relationship between the suspects and the victim.
