In the early afternoon of June 3, 2025, police responded to a report of a shooting in the 5600 block of Regency Park Court in Suitland, Maryland. Inside an apartment, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victims, 32-year-old Myandre McBride, a male resident of Suitland, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was rushed to a local hospital in critical but stable condition.
Investigators began to piece together the events that led to the deadly
shooting. Through various investigative techniques, detectives quickly identified a suspect in the case. The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence, but rather the culmination of an ongoing dispute between the suspect and Myandre McBride. The two were known to each other, though the specific nature of their disagreement was not immediately disclosed.
Within days of the shooting, an arrest was made. James Stewart, a 35-year-old man from Upper Marlboro, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and other related charges in connection with McBride's death. Stewart was committed to the Department of Corrections and held without bond. The second victim in the shooting, 37-year-old Deandre Stevenson of Suitland, succumbed to his injuries and died on June 16, 2025. Authorities indicated that they were consulting with the State's Attorney's Office regarding additional charges against Stewart following Stevenson's death.
