On the evening of January 19, 2016, the life of Franklin Latour Young Jr., a 29-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in his own home. Police were called to the 4300 block of West Village Avenue in the Camp Springs area of Suitland, Maryland, around 9:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon entering his apartment at the Chelsea West Apartments, officers discovered Mr. Young suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. From the outset, detectives stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence, suggesting that Mr. Young may have been targeted. Investigators diligently worked to uncover a motive and to identify any potential suspects who may have been involved in his death. In an effort to gather more information, detectives canvassed the neighborhood and distributed Crime Solvers flyers, appealing to the public for assistance.
Despite their efforts, the case has grown cold over the years. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Franklin Latour Young Jr., and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open and active, with law enforcement officials still hoping for a breakthrough. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to an arrest and indictment in the case, a standing plea for justice for a life taken too soon.
