On a summer evening in Detroit, Michigan, the life of a young boy was tragically cut short. Six-year-old Rylee Love, a male, was inside his home on Anglin Street on July 27, 2025, when he was struck by a stray bullet. Around 9 p.m., a vehicle drove by the intersection of Anglin Street and Stender Avenue, from which multiple shots were fired at a group of people standing nearby. One of these bullets penetrated Rylee's home, fatally striking him in the head while he was playing in a bedroom.
Paramedics arrived and transported him to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The senseless act of violence that claimed Rylee's life prompted a swift investigation by the Detroit Police Department, leading to the arrest of three suspects on August 20, 2025. The men, all from Detroit, were identified as 30-year-old Demontrel Benard Wilson, 28-year-old Deonate Cornealous Cherry, and 28-year-old Terrance Jaland Blue. The community mourned the loss of the young boy, holding rallies and calling for an end to the violence that has affected the city's children.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office brought a host of charges against the three men, including Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Murder and First Degree Murder. They also face charges of Conspiracy to Discharge Firearms from a Vehicle Causing Death, and Discharging Firearms from a Vehicle Causing Death. Additionally, Wilson and Blue were charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The suspects were arraigned on August 23, 2025, and remanded to jail. Their preliminary examination began in the 36th District Court to determine if there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial. During the court proceedings, Rylee Love's mother gave emotional testimony, recounting the horrific moment her son was shot.
