Patrick Jones Jr., a 19-year-old Black man, was walking through Detroit in the predawn hours of March 12, 2015, heading toward a bus stop so he could get to work. It was around 4:30 a.m. when the quiet of the 9200 block of Patton Street—on the city’s west side, between Cathedral and Westfield—was shattered by gunfire.
