In the early afternoon of a Tuesday in Minneapolis, a dispute between two men inside the bustling Chicago & Lake Transit Center took a fatal turn. The victim was 32-year-old Cartez Montel Clinton, a Black/African American male, who was pronounced dead at the scene on September 2, 2025.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later confirmed that Clinton died from multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide.
Immediately following the shooting, which occurred just after 12:30 p.m., the suspect fled the transit hub on foot, last seen heading north on Chicago Avenue. Minneapolis Police Department officers were called to the scene to begin their investigation, with forensic teams collecting evidence. Police Chief Brian O'Hara stated that the shooting did not appear to be a random act and that investigators were reviewing extensive surveillance footage from the transit center to piece together the events that led to the altercation.
