On the evening of August 25, 2013, a tragic event unfolded in a south Minneapolis alley that claimed the life of 20-year-old Keondray Quantez Wilson. He was one of two men fatally shot while inside a vehicle in the 2600 block of 18th Avenue South. The other victim was identified as 18-year-old De'Von Lovise Burt.
The shooting, which occurred around 8:30 p.m., also left two female passengers, an adult and a teenager, with gunshot wounds that they were expected to survive.
When police arrived at the scene following a report of shots fired, they discovered Wilson and Burt deceased inside the car. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner later ruled both of their deaths as homicides.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities identified a suspect, 22-year-old Dijon Cordell Sanders of Farmington. In November 2013, Sanders was charged with two counts of second-degree intentional murder for the deaths of Wilson and Burt, as well as two counts of second-degree attempted murder for the injuries sustained by the other two passengers.
According to the criminal complaint, witnesses reported seeing two men running through the alley on the night of the incident. It is believed that the shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity, with the intended target bearing a resemblance to Wilson. Sanders, who was also known by the alias "Fat Man Scoop," turned himself in to the police. No charges have been announced against any other individuals in connection with the shooting.
