On a late Monday night in Minneapolis, the life of 14-year-old Native American male Kohlin Louis Fohrenkam-Differenthorse was tragically cut short. The evening of March 8, 2021, turned violent on the 2600 block of Cedar Avenue South when gunfire erupted. Police responded to reports of two groups exchanging shots just after 10 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene. Bystanders were attempting to perform CPR on the young boy, who was gravely wounded. Kohlin had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and, despite the efforts to save him, he died at the scene. Another victim, a man in his early 20s, was also shot in the back but was transported to a local hospital with non-critical injuries and was expected to survive.
According to some reports, the suspects fled before police could apprehend them. The investigation into Kohlin's death was treated as a homicide.
