On a Friday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 21-year-old Anthony Campbell was cut short by gunfire. It was just before 10 p.m. on April 22, 2016, when police were called to the 2600 block of Laurel Street. There, in the driveway of a residence, they found Campbell deceased, having sustained apparent gunshot injuries.
In the aftermath of the shooting, details emerged painting a picture of a young man facing significant challenges. Campbell's mother, Natasha, shared that he had recently been released from jail and was struggling to find employment. She spoke of her belief that he was involved with heavy drugs, which she felt contributed to recent erratic behavior. Just days before his death, concerned for his well-being, she had reached out to his probation officer in an attempt to get him help.
The evening of his death, while his mother was at church, a neighbor reportedly witnessed a man exhibiting abnormal behavior. This individual was seen rushing into a home, seemingly in an effort to escape from someone, before the fatal shots were fired.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department into the deadly shooting, no information regarding any arrests or the identification of a suspect or suspects has been publicly released. The case surrounding the death of Anthony Campbell remains without a resolution.
