Jalen Burrell Lee, a 22-year-old African American man, was a devoted father who worked at Hobby Lobby to support his young son. His life was tragically cut short on the afternoon of March 23, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Around 4:39 p.m., gunfire erupted in the 4300 block of Monroe Avenue, leaving Lee with multiple gunshot wounds. When police arrived at the scene, they found him already deceased.
The shooting also critically injured a 21-year-old African American woman who was with
Lee at the time. She was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. The investigation into the shooting led the Baton Rouge Police to two 15-year-old male suspects.
The teenage suspects were taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention Center. They face serious charges, including first-degree murder for the death of Jalen Burrell Lee, attempted first-degree murder for the injuries sustained by the female victim, and illegal use of a weapon. It was also revealed that one of the young suspects had a prior arrest for armed robbery.
Family and friends mourned the loss of Lee, remembering him as a hardworking individual dedicated to his son. His funeral services were held on March 29, 2025, at the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, followed by his interment at Southern Memorial Gardens.
