In the early hours of a Monday morning, on April 1, 2024, the life of 21-year-old Jonathan William was cut short by gunfire in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The fatal incident unfolded around 1:45 a.m. in the 2800 block of 68th Avenue, where William and another man, 23-year-old Demetriyon Grim, were shot and killed. A third individual, a 16-year-old female, was also wounded in the attack but survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities reported that multiple gunshots were fired at the front of the residence where the victims were located. At the time of his death, it was reported that William had been a suspect in a separate double murder case from 2022 that occurred outside the Mall of Louisiana.
The initial investigation into the double homicide on 68th Avenue began with no immediate suspects or clear motive. However, the Baton Rouge Police Department's investigation eventually led to the indictment of four men on charges of second-degree murder. The indicted individuals were identified as 23-year-old Trelvis Griffin, 23-year-old Titus Lucas, 21-year-old Camari Taylor, and 26-year-old Gervea Ferguson.
Following the indictments, law enforcement began to apprehend the suspects. Titus Lucas was the first to be taken into custody on April 15, 2024, followed by the arrest of Trelvis Griffin the next day. Later, on August 15, arrest warrants were issued for the remaining two suspects, Gervea Ferguson and Camari Taylor. The investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the shooting that claimed the lives of Jonathan William and Demetriyon Grim continued as authorities sought to bring all responsible parties to justice.
