Jamal Brandan Smith, a 30-year-old Black man, was shot just before 2 a.m. near East Lake Street and 15th Avenue South in Minneapolis after officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert that was updated to a shooting. First responders found him gravely wounded and rushed him to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was pronounced dead. Another man, believed to have been injured in the same incident, arrived at the hospital separately with non-life-threatening wounds.
