On January 20, 2022, Mahamed Hassan Mahamud, a 27-year-old resident of St. Cloud, Minnesota, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Minneapolis. The incident occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the 500 block of 15th Avenue South. Mahamud was sitting in a parked car with two other individuals when another vehicle approached and opened fire. Mahamud sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed that he died from these injuries and ruled his death a homicide.
The two other occupants of the car, a man and a woman, also suffered gunshot wounds but their injuries were not life-threatening. According to the preliminary investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department, it is believed that the victims and the shooter knew each other, suggesting that the attack was not random. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made, and the identities of any suspects remain unknown.
