A fishing trip among a group of acquaintances in Marrero, Louisiana, took a tragic turn, ending the life of 34-year-old Lacey Lombas. The events of that day escalated from a verbal disagreement to a fatal struggle, leaving a community in shock and a family mourning the loss of a mother of three.
The incident began with a physical altercation between Lombas and another woman, identified as 41-year-old Sarah Duffy.
The initial fight reportedly broke out at their fishing spot and later resumed inside a vehicle. It was during this second confrontation that the situation escalated dramatically. Duffy allegedly introduced a handgun into the conflict. A struggle for control of the weapon ensued between the two women.
During the struggle, the firearm discharged. Lombas was struck in the head by a bullet and was pronounced dead at the scene. Duffy also sustained a gunshot wound to her leg during the altercation. Following the incident, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office was called to the scene in the 5200 block of Sharpe Road.
After being treated for her injury, Sarah Duffy was arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. She is facing a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of Lacey Lombas. The investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
