Mekia Smith, a 7-year-old African American girl, tragically lost her life on September 4, 2019, in Marrero, Louisiana. Mekia was caught in the crossfire during a shooting at her home on Sorbonne Drive. The incident also claimed the life of her 21-year-old brother, Ronald Eddington, and left an 11-year-old girl and an 18-year-old injured.
