In the early morning hours of July 19, 2025, the quiet of a Bowie, Maryland neighborhood was shattered by a fatal gunshot inside a home on the 13200 block of Old Chapel Road. Inside, 53-year-old Damian Ward, a man described by friends as a big, friendly guy with an even bigger heart, was shot and killed. First responders arrived at the scene around 1:45 a.m. to find Damian Ward with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The ensuing investigation quickly focused on his wife, 50-year-old Nicole Lanett Ward. According to police, the chain of events leading to the deadly confrontation began when Nicole Ward discovered a second phone belonging to her husband. On this phone, she allegedly found photos and messages that she believed were evidence of an extramarital affair.

An argument erupted between the couple, during which Nicole Ward reportedly told her husband to pack his bags and leave their home. The verbal dispute escalated tragically. Authorities allege that Nicole Ward then used a. 357 Magnum revolver to shoot her husband. Police took her into custody at the scene without incident.

Nicole Lanett Ward was arrested and subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses. She was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held without bond. The community and those who knew the couple, who have a young daughter together, were left in shock, with many neighbors describing them as a seemingly happy couple.
