In the late hours of a Monday night in Shreveport, Louisiana, the life of 56-year-old Gerald Damon Washington was tragically cut short. On September 29, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Washington was seated in his vehicle, stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Gilbert Drive and Egan Street. It was there that gunfire erupted, shattering the relative quiet of the Highland neighborhood.
Multiple shots were fired from outside his vehicle, striking Washington several times.
Responding to reports of the shooting, Shreveport Police officers arrived to find a grim scene. Washington's vehicle was riddled with bullet holes, and inside, they discovered him slumped over, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Officers quickly removed him from the car and attempted to render life-saving aid, but his injuries were too severe. Gerald Damon Washington was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the 30th homicide in Shreveport for the year 2025.
The investigation into Washington's murder was swift. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit began canvassing the area, collecting evidence, including shell casings, and speaking with potential witnesses. Through their diligent work, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. The following day, on September 30, 2025, authorities located and arrested 27-year-old Eric Sullivan Jr.
Following his arrest, Eric Sullivan Jr. was charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Gerald Damon Washington. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting has not been publicly released by law enforcement officials as the case proceeds through the legal system.
