In the early morning hours of November 7, 2023, a concerned citizen's call led Shreveport Police to a grim discovery in the Hollywood Heights neighborhood. Inside a car parked in the 4800 block of McDaniel Drive, they found the body of 27-year-old Malik R. Henderson. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy was ordered to be conducted to learn more about his death. The male victim was later positively identified using fingerprint comparison.
His death marked the 66th homicide within Shreveport's city limits for the year.
The Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit immediately launched a homicide investigation. Through their diligent work, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the shooting. On December 1, 2023, less than a month after Mr. Henderson's death, police arrested 18-year-old Koryeon Marshun Vance. Following his apprehension, Vance was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Malik R. Henderson. One news source mentioned that the suspect claimed the victim had attempted to rob him.
Following his arrest, Koryeon Vance was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. In March 2024, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury returned an indictment against Vance on the charge of second-degree murder. As of early 2026, court records indicate that Koryeon Vance remains in custody. The final outcome of the legal proceedings against him is still pending.
