In the warm evening of July 3, 2021, the life of 42-year-old Dan Cooksey, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. The initial call to Shreveport Police came in just after 9 p.m., reporting a shooting in the 2800 block of Garden Street, an area nestled in the city's Allendale neighborhood. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Cooksey suffering from at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
He was immediately transported to Ochsner LSU Health for medical attention, but despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 9:55 p.m.
