In the early morning hours of September 24, 2016, the life of 20-year-old Jayveon Arthur, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. The incident unfolded at the Yorkshire Apartments located in the 2000 block of North Hearne Avenue in the Agurs neighborhood. Police were initially dispatched to the apartment complex in response to a noise complaint.
While at the scene, the sound of multiple gunshots pierced the night.
Investigators later determined that the shots were fired from outside the apartment building. One of these bullets struck Jayveon Arthur, who was inside a residence with several other people at the time. He was the only individual injured in the shooting. The wound proved to be fatal, and Arthur was pronounced dead at the scene, marking another life lost to gun violence in the city.
