In the early evening of December 14, 2018, in Shreveport, Louisiana, a dispute between occupants of two vehicles escalated with deadly consequences. Tevin Washington, a 24-year-old African American male, was driving in the 900 block of Babylon Street in the Cedar Grove neighborhood just before 6:00 p.m. when an altercation broke out. During the confrontation, an individual in the other vehicle produced a firearm and shot Washington in the head.
First responders arrived at the scene to
find Washington critically injured. He was promptly transported by the Shreveport Fire Department to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Tevin Washington succumbed to his severe injury and passed away on December 15, 2018.
The Shreveport Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Washington's death. Through their inquiries, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. In February 2019, authorities announced that they had charged 18-year-old Jonathan Rogers with one count of second-degree murder in connection with Tevin Washington's death. At the time the charges were brought against him, Rogers was already incarcerated on unrelated federal charges.
