In the early hours of June 8, 2025, a backyard party in LaGrange, Georgia, turned into a scene of tragedy when gunfire erupted, claiming the life of 19-year-old Javeon Dukes and injuring six others. The shooting took place at a residence on Seminary Street, where a large group had gathered after being dispersed from several other locations throughout the night due to noise complaints.
Javeon Dukes, a student at Georgia State University who had recently made the Dean's List, was transported to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The other six victims, ranging in age from 16 to 21, were also treated for gunshot wounds. Family members described Dukes as a dedicated student who was focused on his schoolwork and his loved ones.
The LaGrange Police Department is actively investigating the shooting as a homicide and has been working to identify the person or persons responsible. In the months following the incident, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made. The city of LaGrange, in an effort to generate leads, has increased the reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. The total reward, combined with contributions from Crime Stoppers, now stands at $12,000.
Authorities have urged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through various channels as the community grapples with the senseless violence that cut short a promising young life and left a family mourning.
