In the early morning hours of August 19, 2025, the sense of security at the Avenue Plaza Apartments in downtown Louisville was shattered. Melinda Leigh Doolin, a 61-year-old white female, was found deceased inside her third-floor apartment from a gunshot wound. The grim discovery was made by Louisville Metro Police who had been called to the apartment building on South 8th Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.
