In a quiet Frankfort, Kentucky, apartment complex on Ashwood Court, a Sunday morning was violently disrupted, leading to the tragic death of Chirome Avant Randle. The 16-year-old male was fatally wounded during a home invasion. On September 14, 2025, an assailant forced his way into the residence, opening fire and striking Randle in the head. Another adult male in the apartment was also shot and critically injured.
The teen was rushed to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day, September 15, 2025.
The Frankfort Police Department responded swiftly to the violent scene. Their investigation was aided by the surviving victim, who, despite his critical condition, was able to provide a description of the suspect's clothing and weapon. This crucial information led police to a nearby trash can where they discovered the items. Shortly after, they located and arrested 27-year-old Makale L. Marks of Frankfort, who was found wearing only shorts and shoes. Investigators also determined that a bullet had traveled through the apartment wall into a neighboring unit, though the occupant there was unharmed.
Following the evidence gathered, the case against Makale L. Marks moved forward. A Franklin County grand jury indicted him on a host of serious charges, including murder, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree wanton endangerment, and tampering with physical evidence. Marks, identified as a persistent felony offender, was also charged with being a felon in possession of a handgun. He was subsequently held at the Franklin County Regional Jail on a $1 million cash bond as the legal proceedings against him commenced. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life cut short by a senseless act of violence, as his family navigated their profound grief and the pursuit of justice.
