In the winter of 2022, the life of Ilya 'Mike' Shimonov, a 32-year-old White/Caucasian man, was tragically cut short in Scottsdale, Arizona. On the evening of January 3rd, gunshots echoed through the parking lot of the Hyatt Place Hotel near Old Town Scottsdale. Responding officers discovered Shimonov with life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his wounds, leaving a community in shock and a family to grapple with a sudden and
violent loss.
The Scottsdale Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation, a complex inquiry that would soon stretch far beyond the Arizona state lines. Detectives diligently followed leads that took them across the country, spanning California, Nevada, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. The relentless investigation yielded its first significant breakthrough on January 12, 2022, when 41-year-old Robert Yves Celifie was apprehended in Las Vegas, Nevada. The search for a second individual continued, culminating two days later, on January 14, with the arrest of Chaze M. Cable, also 41, in Texarkana, Arkansas. Both men were taken into custody and faced serious felony charges, including the grave allegation of first-degree murder, in connection with the fatal shooting of Ilya Shimonov.
