In the early morning hours of September 4, 2019, the life of 24-year-old Coty Lee Brumback, a male from Frankfort, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. Following a verbal disagreement at a downtown establishment, Brumback and his dog, Baloo, were fatally shot in a parking garage on St. Clair Street. The altercation began at a local bar and tragically escalated in the nearby parking structure.
Surveillance footage captured the events that led to the shooting.
After the initial argument, Antonio 'Tone' Dewayne Bolling followed Brumback and his friends to the parking garage. There, the dispute was reignited, and Bolling opened fire. Brumback's dog was shot first, followed by Brumback himself, who sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. His friends, who had taken cover during the shooting, rushed to his side to apply pressure to his wounds. Brumback was transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, where he died during surgery a few hours later. His dog, Baloo, died at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting led to the swift arrest of Antonio Bolling. He was charged with murder, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence, and cruelty to animals. Nena Washington, who was with Bolling, was also arrested and charged with complicity to commit murder and second-degree cruelty to animals for providing the weapon and assisting Bolling in leaving the scene.
In January 2023, Antonio Bolling pleaded guilty to murder, cruelty to animals, and other charges. As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Nena Washington had previously pleaded guilty in December 2021 to criminal facilitation to murder and cruelty to animals. She was sentenced to five years and granted probation on the condition that she would testify against Bolling if his case had gone to trial.
