Edward Ray Harris, a 29-year-old Kentucky State Police trooper, tragically lost his life on November 7, 1979, while attempting to make an arrest in LaRue County, Kentucky. Harris, who had served with the Kentucky State Police for seven and a half years, was shot and killed during the incident. The suspect involved in the shooting was subsequently shot and killed by other officers.
