On September 28, 2025, the search for Timothy King
concluded in the most devastating way. Rockcastle County deputies, following up on the missing person report, made a gruesome discovery on Disputanta Road. King's remains were found concealed beneath a tarp and other items in the yard of a residence near his own. An autopsy would later reveal that he had been deceased for approximately a week before his body was found.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on a neighbor, 40-year-old Tausha F. Mejia. Investigators learned that King had often provided assistance to Mejia, a neighborly kindness that made the subsequent events even more shocking. Evidence gathered by the Kentucky State Police pointed towards Mejia's involvement, leading to her arrest. She was taken into custody and lodged in the Rockcastle County Detention Center on a $1 million cash bond.
Authorities charged Tausha F. Mejia with a string of serious offenses, including murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property, and tampering with physical evidence. The motive for the crime appeared to be robbery, as investigators found some of Timothy King's property in Mejia's possession and she had been seen driving his car.
