In the Crescent Hill neighborhood of Louisville, a life was tragically cut short on a late January evening. Andrew Edward Valdez, a 35-year-old man from Jeffersonville, Indiana, was fatally shot on January 30, 2023. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. in the 100 block of North Birchwood Avenue, near Brownsboro Road. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported Valdez to the University of Louisville Hospital with critical injuries.
Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Andrew, born on April 8, 1987, was remembered as a unique and vibrant individual who brought joy to those around him. Described as the life of the party, he had a passion for live music, writing poetry, and longboarding. His family and friends recall a man who encouraged others to be their most authentic selves and who will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
The investigation into the shooting led Louisville Metro Police to identify a suspect. In early May 2023, 61-year-old Gregory Barnett was arrested in connection with Andrew Valdez's death. Barnett was subsequently charged with murder. Police officials stated that all individuals involved in the shooting had been accounted for.
