In the spring of 2020, the life of 19-year-old Marcus Allen Seymour Jr., a Black male from Louisville, Kentucky, was tragically cut short. On the evening of April 10th, in the 600 block of Colorado Avenue in the southern part of the city, Seymour was shot. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to the University of Louisville Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Despite their efforts, Seymour succumbed to his injuries.
The Louisville Metro Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their work led them to a suspect within a matter of days. On April 14, 2020, police arrested 18-year-old Kyle Kelly in connection with Seymour's death. Investigators believe that Kelly had gone to the residence on Colorado Avenue with the intention of conducting a drug deal. During the course of this transaction, an altercation occurred, and Kelly allegedly shot Seymour in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Following his arrest, Kyle Kelly was charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. The untimely death of Marcus Allen Seymour Jr. left his family, including his father, Marcus Allen Seymour Sr., his mother, LaChae Churn, and his sister, Mariah Seymour, to grapple with an immense loss. Due to the public health restrictions in place at the time, the family held private funeral and burial services to honor his memory.
