Rodney Evans, a 17-year-old Black male, was shot and killed on the evening of July 1, 2025, on Gary's east side. Investigators and the Lake County Coroner's Office identified him at the scene after multiple gunshot wounds at the Citgo gas station at 401 S. Grand Blvd., where the shooting was reported around 9:40 p.m.; he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m. The coroner's medicolegal team and the Lake County Forensic Science Center responded, and public records list Evans as a Gary resident.
