In the early morning hours of July 19, 2015, the life of 18-year-old Melvin Travis Jr. was tragically cut short in his hometown of Gary, Indiana. A volunteer from a local homeless shelter discovered his body in an alleyway on the 600 block of Ridge Road, initially mistaking him for someone who had passed out.
