On a summer afternoon in Indianapolis, 29-year-old Dontae Anthony Lewis was found with a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Fall Creek Parkway East Drive. It was shortly after 3 p.m. on July 5, 2025, when officers responded to a report of a person shot near Ensign Graham Edward Martin Park. Tragically, Mr. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services.
Initially, authorities believed the fatal wound may have been self-inflicted.
However, within 24 hours, the investigation took a significant turn. After a more thorough examination of the evidence at the scene, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that they were now investigating Dontae Anthony Lewis's death as a homicide. This reclassification came after investigators ruled out the possibility of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
In the days following his death, the Marion County Coroner's Office officially confirmed his identity and cause of death. As the investigation into the homicide began, police officials stated that they had not yet identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information regarding the case and have asked that anyone with knowledge of the incident contact the IMPD Homicide Office.
