In the late hours of a Wednesday evening, the life of 21-year-old Christian Barnes of Michigan City, Indiana, was tragically cut short in Gary. Authorities were called to an alley behind the 500 block of E. Ridge Road on September 10, 2025, where they discovered Barnes suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Lake County Coroner's investigator just before midnight.
A subsequent forensic autopsy confirmed that the young Black male's death was a result of the gunshot wounds, and the case was officially ruled a homicide. Responding to the grim discovery were the Gary Police Department, the Gary Fire Department, the Lake County Sheriff's CSI unit, and the Lake County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force, who have since been jointly handling the ongoing investigation.
Known as an artist, dancer, rapper, and drummer, Christian was described as a multi-talented individual who was the life of the party. He was a loving father to his two sons, Kyree Williams and Canari Barnes. His family remembered him as having the biggest smile but also being serious when necessary, a loyal and protective person who was loved and honored by many.
Despite the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive in the shooting death of Christian Barnes. As the investigation continues, officials have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the Gary Police Department Detective Bureau or the Lake County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force. To date, no arrests have been announced in connection with his murder.
