Marcus Banks III, 27, a Black man, was shot in northwest Atlanta late on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Police were called just before 11:30 p.m. to Westmoor Drive NW in the Washington Park neighborhood, where they found him with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and did not survive. Early reports from the scene described the attack as a drive-by, and detectives with the Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit opened an investigation that night.
